Confessing

Matthew 10:32 “Therefore everyone who confesses Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father who is in heaven.
Romans 10:9-10
that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.
Philippians 2:1-2
Therefore if there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion, make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose.

The Christian faith is a faith that is made public.  It is not just an inward "private" faith hidden  in its own little area of life. Salvation comes by the grace of God through faith. That faith will make itself known both inwardly and outwardly.   To be a Christian is to acknowledge that there is a new King to whom you pledge allegiance. In the time when the book of Romans was written, to confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord would be considered a treasonous act against all other gods and rulers.  It was a dangerous proposition for both those who would confess and those who would not.  It was dangerous for the confessor because now he was marked off as belonging to Jesus Christ.  To be marked as a Christian, placed the confessor in danger of hatred and persecution by a worldly system committed to upholding its own authority.   Jesus said "if the world hated him it would hate you."  It was dangerous to those who would not join in that confession because Jesus is the Sovereign King.  Those who refuse to obey him and set themselves as rulers over their own lives will all answer to him.   To confess that Jesus is Lord is still dangerous today for the same reasons.  Yet there is a glorious hope for those who confess Christ.

It is on the basis of this confession of faith, that Jesus Christ is building his church and the gates of hell will not prevail against her.  At Sovereign King Church, we having the encouragement of Christ, the consolation of love, and the fellowship of Spirit are united in one love, mind, and purpose.  This unity we share is founded on the confession that Jesus Christ is Lord.
