Visiting a church for the first time can be intimidating experience. We don't want you to feel awkward or intimated. We will do our best to help you feel welcome. Whether you’ve been a Christian for years, or simply checking things out for the first time, we look forward to seeing you at Sovereign King Church.
Our service time starts at 10:30 AM and usually lasts around two hours. Here’s some of what you can expect during this time.
SingingOur worship leads us with songs that declare God’s truth and promises. We sing the great hymns of the faith from all eras of Christian history, the psalms from God's word, and newer praise songs. As we sing, our focus is not on ourselves, but on the mighty God who made us and calls us to Himself.
PrayerEach week we have the privilege of joining together before God in prayer. Whether we are asking for His forgiveness, praying for our nation’s leaders, or thanking Him for providing, we approach God’s throne with boldness and confidence, knowing that our heavenly Father hears and answers us.
Scripture Reading The Bible is the very Word of God. Hearing God’s word read is life-changing. It convicts and heals us by the power of the Holy Spirit. We read from both the Old and New Testament regularly.
Catechism Catechism is a funny sounding word but it simply means to teach Biblical truth in an orderly way. This is typically done with questions and answers to be explained and memorized. This has been a practice that Christians have done for centuries. We use the Westminster Shorter Catechism and our own SKC Family Catechism. Children love this part of our worship because they get to interact with the worship leaders.
Preaching/Teaching We believe that the Bible is the ultimate authority for all of life. When God's word is preached and taught, God is glorified, man is humbled, Jesus is honored, and lives are changed. 2 Timothy 4:2 says "Preach the word. Be ready in season and out of season. Reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction. The kind of preaching and teaching that God wants must convince, rebuke, and exhort. This isn't always the thing our sinful hearts want to be confronted with, but if we are careful not turn our hearts from hearing truth, godly preaching will not only convict our sinful hearts but heal them.
The Lord's Supper The Lord Jesus instituted a physical sign and seal of his fellowship and communion with believers often called the Lord's Supper. In the Lord's supper, Christians in remembrance of Christ's death on the cross for sins eat bread and drink wine. Every week at the Sovereign King Church, we enjoy this sacrament together. Those who have been baptized, have made a profession of faith, are members of a bible believing church in good standing, and do not have any unrepentant sin are invited to participate.
Children Sovereign King Church believes that children are a gift and a blessing. The family is the essential building block of civilization. We believe that children are a vital part of every local church. We do not offer any "children's church" as we believe children are a vital part of the church family. Families are encouraged to worship together. We know that having kids in worship with us may mean there is a little more noise. But we wouldn't have it any other way. You might not think your children are listening at a young age but you will be surprised at how much biblical truth they pick up. So, bring your family with kids of all ages and worship the risen Savior with us.
Worship with all of heart, mind, and body. At Sovereign King Church, we are committed to being a church that is in continuity with the historical Christian faith. This means we strive for our worship service to be reverent, joyful, and participatory. We believe that God wants us to worship him with all that we are. Worship is not just emotional catharsis nor a purely mental exercise. Rather as we engage with the word of God and think of his glory, holiness, and mercies we engage our intellect and are moved in our hearts. We want the posture of our bodies to reflect this reverence and joy. There are times in our service where you will be asked to stand or kneel but don't worry if you are not able to, we understand and want you to participate as you can.
