Love is Love

Whether it’s songs, t-shirts, comic book titles, or shouted at pride rallies, the phrase “Love is Love” is a catchy little slogan meant to convey something bigger. Taken at face value, the phrase doesn’t mean much. It’s akin to saying “A=A,” meaning it’s essentially useless.

The phrase’s hidden power, however, is in the idea that you can load the word “love” with your own definition. “Love is Love” is used as a hammer to argue that whatever I call love must therefore be love. If you like love--and who doesn’t?--then surely you will like what I say is love.

Abandoned by the Elves

We often feel like the dwarves at the beginning of the Hobbit movie who watched the elves abandon them in the battle.

We cry out to the Lord, "where are all your people?" When grow tired and frustrated at other Christians who aren't involved in the same ways we are or who on the surface don't seem involved in any battle at all.

Far From Home

The book of Proverbs gives a great picture of the difference between a godly woman and a wicked woman. One of the characteristics of the godly woman is that she "looks well to the ways of her household. (Proverbs 31:27) A godly woman's primary focus is homeward. It is not that she is a slave to the kitchen or always cooped up in a house but her primary focus is to the home. The industrious work that she does as a helper to her husband is in care of the household. She is a quiet, submissive, and diligent woman so that her husband can trust her while he is away taking dominion over the earth.The wicked woman is not so. She is boisterous. She is rebellious and she does everything she can to be away from the home.

The mindless, Spiritless, fleshly, carnal pursuit of pleasure was arbitrary and meaningless because in the flesh: ultimate, sustainable, lasting pleasure could not be attained. This type of pleasure was fleeting, and left one enslaved to it in an endless vain pursuit.
However, there is a pursuit after which true joy may be achieved. There is worthwhile labor and toil which, in the end will not be in vain.
