The Vision and Mission of SKC
Our Vision
We aim to forge a fellowship deeply united in and committed to worshiping Jesus Christ as King, zealous to proclaim His gospel and to dedicate every aspect of our lives to His glorious reign.- Vision Statement
We are not trying to create a loose crowd of religious consumers. We are seeking to build a real fellowship. That means worship, love, service, correction, forgiveness, hospitality, sacrifice, and growth.
Our unity is not based on everyone having the same personality, background, interests, or opinions. Our unity is built on the faith we have in Jesus and what He has done for us as taught in Scripture. This unites us together in worship and shared covenant life. We want real unity, not shallow politeness. We want to know one another, bear one another’s burdens, forgive one another, and labor together for the glory of Christ.
Jesus is not merely a private helper. Christ is King over all of life. There is no neutral area. Family, work, education, money, sexuality, entertainment, children, culture, and civil government all belong under His rule. Worship is the center of church life because Christ summons His people to Himself. Lord’s Day worship forms us, strengthens us, and sends us back into the world to live before Him. But Christianity is not merely Sunday morning religion. It is a whole life brought under the Word of Christ.
Our Mission
We confess Christ as King, proclaim Christ’s gospel reign, and construct according to Christ’s command.
We Confess
Christ As King
To confess Christ as King is to openly declare that Jesus Christ is Lord.
Christian faith is public, not hidden. We confess Christ before God, before the Church, before our families, and before the world. This confession is what unites as a Church.
We confess that Jesus is Lord, Scripture is God’s Word, and that salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. We believe that God is sovereign, Christ rules His Church, and the historic Christian faith matters.
At Sovereign King Church, this means we seek to be biblical, creedal, confessional, Reformed, Presbyterian, and accountable.
We are biblical because Scripture is the supreme and final authority. We do not get to invent Christianity. We are under the Word of God.
We are creedal and confessional because we gladly use the Apostles’ Creed, the Nicene Creed, the Westminster Confession of Faith, and the catechisms. These do not replace the Bible. They summarize what we believe the Bible teaches and connect us to the faithful Church throughout history.
We are Reformed because we believe God is sovereign in salvation. Salvation is by grace, not by man’s merit. God saves sinners from beginning to end.
We are Presbyterian because we believe Christ governs His Church through elders, and that churches should be connected and accountable. Sovereign King Church is a member church of Evangel Presbytery.
We are accountable because we covenant together. Members receive preaching, shepherding, prayer, discipline, correction, and care. Membership means being known, loved, and shepherded.
We Proclaim
Christ’s Gospel Reign
What we confess, we proclaim.
The gospel is good news, and good news must be announced. Jesus Christ died for sinners, rose from the dead, ascended to the right hand of the Father, and now reigns as Lord. He commands all men everywhere to repent and believe the gospel.
We proclaim Christ to believers and unbelievers. We proclaim Him from the pulpit, in our homes, in our families, in public, in evangelism, and in ordinary conversations.
Preaching is central to our life as a church. We preach God’s Word, both law and gospel, and the whole counsel of God. Preaching is not decorative. It is one of the chief ways God gathers, feeds, corrects, and builds His people.
Lord’s Day worship is also central to our proclamation. We sing, pray, confess, hear the Word, and come to the Lord’s Table. Our worship is joyful and reverent because God is holy and Christ is worthy.
The sacraments also proclaim the gospel. Baptism and the Lord’s Supper are not empty rituals. They are ordinances Christ gave His Church. We practice weekly Lord’s Supper, and we baptize believers and their children according to our Presbyterian convictions while receiving Baptist brothers charitably.
We also believe Christians should speak the gospel beyond the walls of the church. We are not embarrassed by public witness. We want the gospel proclaimed to family, friends, coworkers, neighbors, strangers, and civil rulers.
Our confidence in God’s sovereignty does not kill evangelism. It fuels it. God is responsible for salvation. We are responsible for obedience.
We Construct According to Christ’s Command
God does not forgive us and leave us in ruins. By His Word and Spirit, He rebuilds us.
To construct according to Christ’s command means we seek to build lives, families, churches, and culture according to the Word of God. Christianity tears down rebellion and builds obedience.
We care about biblical education because the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Education is not neutral. Children and adults need to be formed by the Word of God.
We care about family ministry because the family is a basic building block of society. We want strong marriages, faithful fathers, fruitful mothers, obedient children, and homes ordered under Christ. We do not outsource all discipleship to church programs.
We care about biblical manhood and womanhood because God created mankind male and female. Men and women are equal in dignity and different by design. Men should be trained to lead, protect, provide, and sacrifice. Women should be honored in their God-given callings and strengthened in biblical femininity.
We care about mercy ministry because true religion cares for widows, orphans, and those in need. We want to love in deed, not word only, and we want mercy ordered by wisdom, truth, and responsibility.
We care about culture and tradition because culture is not neutral. We want to pass on what is good, true, and beautiful. We are not trying to be rootless modern people. We care about worship, music, manners, feasting, children, hospitality, heritage, and community life.
We care about biblical justice because Christ is King over civil rulers too. We pray for magistrates, preach God’s law and gospel publicly, oppose abortion, and seek justice as defined by Scripture, not modern ideology.
We care about all of life because every calling matters. Men and women should glorify God in their vocations, homes, churches, and communities. Christianity is not only doctrine in the head. It becomes life.
The Culture We Are Building
We are seeking to build a church culture where God is honored in all of life.
This starts with joyful, reverent, and warm biblical worship shaped by preaching, prayer, singing, confession, baptism, and the Lord’s Supper.
We want strong doctrine without dead formalism. We care deeply about theology, but doctrine must lead to worship, obedience, courage, repentance, and love. We do not want cold intellectualism.
We believe families and children are a blessing. Children are not an inconvenience to church life. They are a gift from the Lord. We expect children to be trained, and we expect adults to be patient as they grow. The sound of children in worship is the sound of life.
We are seeking multi-generational faithfulness. We are not building merely for the next event, the next sermon series, or the next year. We want our children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to know Christ, love His Church, and walk in His ways.
We want kingdom-minded evangelism and discipleship. We want lost people saved, sinners called to repentance, new converts baptized, families discipled, and the nations brought under the gracious rule of Jesus Christ.
We want men to be men. We want men to lead, sacrifice, work, fight sin, protect the weak, provide, worship, and take responsibility.
We want women honored as women. We reject the lie that women must become like men to be valuable. We honor wives, mothers, daughters, older women, and single women in their God-given callings.
We want plain speech and honest accountability. We do not want a fake, polished, pretentious church culture. We want people who work hard, tell the truth, serve faithfully, repent when needed, forgive freely, and roll up their sleeves to build.
We believe in public Christianity. Christ must be confessed publicly. Not every member will do the same work in the same way, but every member should believe the faith is public.
We want hospitality and life together. Church is not merely an event to attend. It is a body to belong to. We want meals, fellowship, prayer, counsel, service, and practical help in each other’s lives.
