What Do We Believe?

Sovereign King Academy is a ministry of Sovereign King Church: a reformed, evangelical, and protestant church. What does that mean? Here are seven key focuses of our confessional faith:

Christ and Kingdom Focused

Jesus is King and his gospel kingdom is our central unifying focus. We believe Jesus is King in both heaven and on earth. He is the eternal Son of God, both fully God and fully man. All things were created through Him and for Him. He was born of a virgin and lived in complete submission to the will of the Father. He was unjustly tried and condemned to die on a cross. He willingly laid his life down for his sheep. He was buried. On the third day, he rose again and was seen by his disciples. He ascended into heaven having been given all authority. He is reigning now as his enemies are placed under his feet and will one day return in judgement. The Father and the Son have sent the Holy Spirit to build and guide the church, growing the kingdom throughout the world.

God’s word is the supreme authority. We believe that the Bible is always true and applicable for all of life. It is God-breathed revelation. It is infallible and inerrant.

Creedal and Confessional

It is the duty of the church to publish what it believes from the word of God. We adhere to the Westminster Confession of Faith together with the Larger and Shorter Catechisms and the Apostles’ and Nicene Creeds. We hold that these confessions and creeds are faithful and accurate summaries of the basic, fundamental truths of Scripture. Therefore, they form our constitution, guiding our interpretation and instruction of Scripture, while remaining subject to the supreme authority of the Word of God.

No, we are not Roman Catholic.  The word catholic means universal.  W believe it is important to have unity within this body and with the larger body of Christ found through Church history and throughout the world.  We are a church following in the path of so many Christians who have come before.  We plan on being nothing new.
Part of the unity we have share means that we recognize that the church universal has been divided on the issue of baptism.  The Westminster Confession says that the children of believers ought to be baptized. Some of us believe that’s true. Some of us believe that baptism should be reserved for those who have made a credible profession of faith.  We will not divide from each other on the issue of who should be baptized.  You can see our statement on unity and charity of baptism below.

Salvation is by Grace through Faith in Christ to the glory of God as revealed in Scripture. We believe that nothing happens outside of the sovereign will of the eternally holy, good, and triune God. By His will, He created all things for His own glory. His sovereignty is unlimited. It extends to and over the salvation of His people.  We believe that God has given His grace to His people freely and that faith is the only way we receive God`s saving grace. Our faith is in the loving work of Jesus Christ who lived a perfect life, laid down his life on the cross, was buried, rose again from the dead, ascended into heaven from where he will return. This faith itself is itself a gift of God so that no one may boast.

We believe that accountability and unity with like-minded local churches is vital. Sovereign King Church is a member of Evangel Presbytery, a group of churches and church plants that are committed to holding each other accountable in doctrine (what we believe) and practice.  We also work together to further the kingdom of God through church planting and training pastors.

Gods Law for Life

There is not one square inch of creation that Christ's rule does not impact, thus His commands are for all people and nations. God’s law is  not only the standard for the church but also for the family and the civil government. Fathers, Pastors, and Political leaders must obey him.

At Sovereign King Church we want to see all of society live in obedience to God. In particular, we desire to see men and women live out their God-given and natural calling. God created both men and women in his image. Both men and women are endowed with dignity and respect. He has, however, endowed each sex with different gifts, responsibilities, and callings. Men are given authority to lead in the church, family, and society. Women are created to give and nurture life. Woman is created to be the helper of man. Together they may be co-heirs in Christ.

We believe God ordained marriage as the first and primary human relationship. Marriage is only between one man and one woman for life. One of its primary purposes is to be fruitful with children. Children are a gift from God to be cherished and trained in the admonition of the Lord.
