Prayers of the Faithful
The prayers of God’s people are powerful and effective because we pray to the living God through Jesus Christ. Each Lord’s Day, we pray together for Christ’s Church, the work of gospel ministry, our civil leaders, and the needs before us. Use these requests in your prayers throughout the week.
Church:
Pray for Church of the King in Evansville and Pastor Jake Mentzel. Give thanks for this sister church and ask the Lord to strengthen Pastor Jake in the faithful preaching of His Word. Pray that the congregation would grow in holiness, unity, courage, and love for Christ, and that God would use them to bear much gospel fruit in Evansville.
Ministry: The Growth Committee of Evangel Presbytery
Pray for Sovereign King Academy. Give thanks for the opportunity to provide our children with an education rooted in the truth of God’s Word. Pray for our teachers, students, and families as the school year begins. Ask God to grant wisdom, patience, diligence, and joy, and to use the Academy to help raise up a generation that loves Christ, pursues truth, and serves His Kingdom faithfully.
Civil Magistrate: Jeffersonville City Councilmember Evan Stoner
Pray for the Jeffersonville Police Department. Give thanks for the men and women who serve our community by maintaining peace and restraining evil. Ask God to protect them in dangerous situations and grant them wisdom, courage, self-control, and a love of justice. Pray that they would exercise their authority rightly, showing no partiality and honoring God in their service to our city.
Expectant Mothers
Pray for the expectant mothers in our congregation: Chelsea Mix, Emily Leupp, Isabelle Hargiss, Rowina Spurgeon, and Gabby Fluhr. Ask the Lord to preserve them and the children in their wombs, giving them health, strength, peace, and endurance. Pray that these mothers would be encouraged in body and soul, protected from fear and anxiety, and strengthened by the grace of Christ. Ask God to bless these little ones from the womb and to bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
Sharpening Our Arrows

The King’s Council
Saturday, September 26,2026
5:00 to 8:00 PM
Sovereign King Church
The King’s Council is our quarterly men’s gathering: faithful men for hard times.
This Gathering
The Freedom of Sons
Living and Leading from Their Father’s Approval
A lot of men spend their lives trying to prove themselves.
Strong enough. Successful enough. Good enough. Worthy of respect. Worthy of love.
And when a man lives that way long enough, he starts second-guessing himself. He becomes afraid to fail. Afraid to lead. Afraid to risk. Always wondering whether he measures up. Always looking somewhere for approval.
Sometimes Christian men even bring that same mindset before God.
But Christian man, you were not redeemed to spend your life begging for approval.
You are not a slave. You are a son.
At this King’s Council, Pastor Jake Mentzel will speak on The Freedom of Sons: Living and Leading from Their Father’s Approval.
What changes when a man really knows that God is his Father and that he belongs to Him? What kind of freedom does that give him to work, lead, risk, fail, repent, grow, and become the man God has called him to be?
God’s grace does not make men passive.
It makes them free.
And a man who knows where he stands can stand strong.
Frontier Shepherds Conference
September 16–17, New Geneva Academy will host the Frontier Shepherds Conference, a gathering for pastors, church planters, and church members who long to see faithful pastoral care and whole-life discipleship strengthened in our churches.
New Geneva Academy is a ministry connected with our presbytery, and Sovereign King Church is glad to support its work. This conference is not only for pastors, but for anyone who desires to see faithful men raised up to plant churches, shepherd souls, preach to the conscience, lead with conviction, and love the sheep God has entrusted to them.
This year’s speakers will bring seasoned wisdom on planting churches that practice real pastoral care and discipleship, the kind of work that was at the heart of the Reformation and is greatly needed in our own day.
Attendees can expect faithful teaching, warm fellowship, good food, sweet worship, and a Thursday night concert by My Soul Among Lions, complete with dessert.
All attendees are also warmly invited to attend Evangel Presbytery’s Fall Stated Meeting on Friday, September 18, at Trinity Reformed Church.
We encourage our members to consider attending, especially those who desire to grow in their understanding of church planting, pastoral care, and the work of reformation in the local church.
